[INNO] 2017 BAM Conference U.K.(1)

Dr. JS KIM 2017. 9. 15. 04:34

At a last week, in order to attend the 2017 BAM Conference. I went to the Univ. of Warwick. And, it was a first time for me to visit Univ. of Warwick, U.K. Even though the Univ. of Warwick has a small campus, it has a wonderful and beautiful campus. Along with the Univ. of Warwick, the British Academy of Management was in charge of organizing the 2017 BAM Conference. It was one of the largest conferences, which I attended.

First of all, it was a very nice conference, even though I had exhausted mainly due to my travel (carrying a bag and almost 15 hrs flight^^;;;). The first day in the BAM conference was all about workshop sessions and meetings. However, indeed, it was a nice for me to adjust myself into the BAM conference.

At the plenary session titled “from Lab to World: How far can science of human behavior shape policy and practice? Three speakers addressed three important areas: marketing, management and economics. Three speakers were Adam Oliver (London School of Economics), Nick Chater (Univ. of Warwick), and finally Teppo Felin (Univ. of Oxford). In fact, on in-depth origins or current trends from publications were shortly and clearly explained. (not going in detail) PDW (2) More Rigor and Relevance with NCA was interesting. NCA is Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA). It has a unique methodological dimension. Usage of NCA can complement traditional regression as well as other methods. It helped me to consider a new way of thinking on a quantitative methodology and research. A discussion was useful to catch up the notion of NCA. By looking at the presentation, I noticed that my question was addressed. Otherwise, there were many sessions of philosophical and methodological approaches. Also I attended the workshop of strategy. The session chair was Joseph Lampel: project as a building block for strategy execution. It was nice to see Prof. Joseph Lampel. Narayanan, O’Regan, Ghobadian and Dalcher. However, in order to deal with the topic, it was rather in a shortage of time.

Finally, the meeting on SIG-Innovation was good to create networks. In fact, I would like to express my thanks to Track Chairs George Tsekouras and Nick Marshall from Univ. of Brighton. one of joys in this conference was to meet some MBS alumni, who are working as academic faculties at the U.K and others. I think that I should stop here. It would not be possible to write-up all – what I had.
